Kindness

Em: I’ll call security if you keep coming back.

Evelyn: You won’t.

Kindness follows the lives of three discontent office workers who befriend Evelyn, a woman in her late eighties. Unfulfilled by their jobs, the workers’ boredom manifests in paranoia and violent escapism. Kindness is a meditation on the pressures of modern life, loss of community, and the intricacies of relationships between strangers.

“Mackey writes brilliant offbeat dialogue that swirls through the inanities and excruciations of office life. A thwarted struggle for human connection - against a thick fog of self-absorption - repeats, in an almost absurdist way, against a wall of short, discontinuous scenes.” Cameron Woodhead, The Age.
